CoronavirusCIID COVID-19 RESEARCH IN THE NEWS

 

CIID Researchers are working in high level containment laboratories to grow SARS-CoV-2 to increase capacity in diagnostic testing and provide virus for researchers at UC Davis and other institutions. This is a collaborative effort with our partners at the California National Primate Research Center and the UC Davis Health System, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  The Center for Immunology & Infectious Diseases is jointly sponsored by the School of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Medicine.

January 22, 2021:  Dr. Smita Iyer was quoted on the UCDavis News homepage in an article written by Andy Fell titled "Rhesus Macaques Develop Promising Immune Response to SARS-CoV-2".  This article was also reference in the Davis Enterprise and FOX 40 News covered this story. 

January 14, 2021:  Dr. Stephen McSorley and Dr. Stuart Cohen answered questions related to the current COVID-19 Vaccines on UC Davis LIVE

October 28, 2020:  Medium Coronavirus Blog article:  Don't Freak Out Over That Waning Covid-19 Antibodies Study

August 16, 2020:  Dr. Smita Iyer was quoted in the New York Times article "Scientists See Signs of Lasting Immunity to Covid-19, Even After Mild Infections"

June 18th, 2020:  Dr. Smita Iyer was awarded a Fast Grant from the George Mason University for her project, "Investigating Convalescent Plasma Therapy for COVID-19 in a rhesus model"

May 29, 2020:  Dr. Smita Iyer was awarded a supplement to her NIH grant RF1AG061001 to study "COVID 19 Respiratory and CNS Pathogenesis in Geriatric Rhesus Monkeys"

May 7, 2020:  Dr. Smita Iyer was awarded an R21 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to perform research on "Convalescent plasma therapy for COVID-19".
